Find the solutions that fit the location
In Guelmim, the floods from oued Oum Laachar had the greatest impact, but runoff from a nearby mountain, Mount Tayyert, contributed to the flooding in the central and northern districts. Mitigating this type of risk requires a different solution from what is needed to address wadi floods. Floodwaters need to be channeled, diverted or drained while runoff is still in the foothills; or, alternatively, storm retention basins on the flanks of the mountain are needed – constructing this type of retention alongside roads would complement reforestation efforts.
