Flood Hazard and Risk Mapping: Component 2 of Serbia National Disaster Risk Management Plan
Following the 2014 floods, the Serbian Government approved a national disaster risk management program (NDRMP) to develop a long-term risk management system, including the generation of flood risk information. In this context, the flood hazard and risk maps were developed in close collaboration with the Republic Directorate of Water, the Public Water Management Companies Srbijavode and Vode Vojvodine, the Public Investment Management Office, the Republic Hydro-meteorological Service of Serbia, the Republic Geodetic Authority, the Military Geographic Institute, and the Ministry of European Integration. The resulting maps can thus be used as an indication of flood hazard and risk, but they shall not be used for other purposes. The maps are also a steppingstone for the development of flood risk management plans, which is the next step in the flood management cycle stipulated in the Water Law of Serbia and the European Union (EU) floods directive.
