Humanitarians at the forefront: Scaling up climate action and finance flows to frontline communities

This UNFCCC COP26 side event hosted by Mercy Corps focused on the humanitarian response to the climate and environmental crises. The session focused on the humanitarian response to the climate and environmental crises. It highlighted opportunities for collective climate action and brought attention to gaps and challenges around protecting the most vulnerable, locally led adaptation and climate finance. Using case studies from climate vulnerable countries and countries experiencing both climate change and armed conflict we explored how climate finance flows to national and local organisations, and communities and examine what climate finance is spent on when it reaches these local actors and communities. Additionally, we highlighted the need for greater investment in climate finance to help support humanitarian actors dealing with climate change impacts.
