Jordan Country Briefing

Although Jordan is one of the most water-scarce countries in the world, floods are a common hazard, with intensity and frequency expected to increase due to climate change. Floods accounted for nearly 40 per cent of hazards in the country between 1900 and 2018. Recent flash floods have disrupted social cohesion and strained the relationship between communities and the Government of Jordan. This country brief outlines the objectives of the Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance’s work in Jordan, led by Mercy Corps in partnership with affected communities.
